Many people
get scammed on awards, contests and giveaways.
Consider it a scam
and stay away, if they:
Contact you, not
you contact them
Claim there is a
processing or application fee to claim your
prize, product or service and ask for your
credit card, bank account information or
money up front NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONAL
INFORMATION TO STRANGERS. Don't
divulge your checking or savings account
numbers, social security number or other
personal information, no matter how
reasonable-sounding the request.
You have to
decide RIGHT NOW or the offer is no good or
if they make excuses why you can't think
about it and get back to them. Many
will claim the phone they are on only allows
one to make calls, not receive them.
Contact
either the
Northern Nevada Better Business Bureau or the
Southern Nevada Better Business Bureau.
The BBB
keeps a database of all complaints that are
filed with them. This database is
public information, and is an excellent
resource for "checking out a company."
Depending on the nature of the complaint,
they sometimes contact the company on behalf
of the consumer.
If you think
you've been scammed, you can
file a complaint
with the Nevada Attorney General's Office.
